Our New Building!

We are so excited about the building! Watch over the next few weeks for all of the changes as the remodel begins! This is the building before the construction begins in the 1st week of May!

Well this week has been busy and exciting. The new building is moving along. The interior and exterior design has been approved and the remodel should start on Tuesday or Wednesday.

In other news, we’re moving! Yes, after 8 years we are moving to a new location, at 10 N Evergreen in Spokane Valley. The building is bought, the plans for the outside have been finalized and we will see some construction starting in the next few weeks. The new building is much bigger than our current one and will allow us to better serve the needs of our current and future clients. Our services have been expanding to include eyelash extensions, permanent makeup and teeth whitening with others in the works. It’s an exciting time and an opportunity for us to create an amazing environment that gives everyone that moment in their day when they can relax and let their worries flow away. Next weekend, April 17^th through the 19^th, we will have a booth at the Women’s Show at the Convention Center in Spokane. It’s the weekend for the Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure as well. Because of the work we do with cancer patients young and old, we meet with men, women and children dealing with many variations of this disease, including breast cancer, on a daily basis. Finding a cure for the disease that afflicts so many people is a cause very close to our hearts. To show our support at the Women’s Show, we will be selling and applying bright pink MicroPoint Accents, which are temporary hair extensions. They are $5 dollars each and ALL the proceeds from each accent will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation. New Building

Monique's Salon is getting a New Home!

After 8 years in the current location, Monique's Salon purchased a new building and will be expanding in size and services within the next 6 months!

We have grown so much, that we will be moving from our current location of 2200 sf to a newly remodeled building that is 6100 sf.

All of us are extremely excited to be able to expand and grow. This will allow many new jobs in the community and new and expanded services and products.

Spokane Valley, WA - February 5th, 2009 - Monique Smith, owner of Monique's Salon in Spokane Valley, Wa and Bellevue, Wa was recently awarded the Spokane Valley Community Care Award for 2008.

I invite you to learn more about this generous woman and all she does to support her neighbors here in Washington State. Whether she is creating new job opportunities in Bellevue or styling and donating custom wigs for cancer patients in Spokane, Monique truly understands how to combine passion and know-how to create a solid business foundation.

Female cancer patients will tell you again and again that when they receive the diagnosis, their first thought is not about losing a breast--or even losing their lives--it's about losing their hair. After all, it's what they see when they look in the mirror and has so much to do with how people define themselves as individuals. As much as they may not want to admit it, hair loss is also devastating to men. Monique and her staff have an amazing ability to help clients work through this emotional quagmire to redefine themselves and hold their heads high.

This is possible because of the incredible skills and understanding of the people who work at Monique's Salon. Truly, their greatest asset is Monique herself. Inland Northwest Candlelighters is an organization that helps our local children and their families when a child is diagnosed with cancer, because kids can't fight cancer alone. Monique also donates one custom wig per quarter to a child of Inland Northwest Candellighters choice.

Monique and her staff at Monique's Salon help sponsor one young girl in the Miss Spokane Valley Ambassador program and help the girls with their hair and makeup the night of the coronation.

Monique has recognized a need in this economic time to help men, women and child with image services. Currently, once per month a local resident is chosen to have a complete makeover by Monique's Salon and strategic partners within the community. The makeover could include, hair services, hair pieces if necessary, waxing, makeup, teeth whitening and much more.

Monique is a silver sponsor to the Spokane Valley Chamber. She supports all of the local schools, charities, fundraisers and local businesses through donations and auction items.

Monique was announced as the winner at the Annual Awards Gala on January 24th, 2009 at the Mirabeau Park Hotel.

SBA Nomination Update

As of January 1st, Monique Smith was one of the finalist for the SBA Washington State Small Business Person of the Year! She is in the top three and we will keep you posted as soon as we know!

Monique Smith, Owner of Monique's Salon was recently nominated for the Washington State SBA Small Business Person of the Year.

The Small Business Administration honors a small business person every year. Each nominee must submit a substantial amount of information regarding the business. The documents include a business profile, biography of the candidate, financials of the business, photos of the business and staff, and supporting documentation for the nominees achievements.

The nominee’s packet is reviewed by a panel of judges, who determine the best candidate for the State award. The nominees are judges on staying power, expansion, business growth, increase in assets, growth in employees, increase in sales, financial performance, innovativeness of products and services, response to adversity and contributions to aid community oriented projects.

The winner of the award will be honored at the Washington State Awards Event on April 23rd, 2009 at the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall in Seattle.

If Monique Smith is awarded this recognition, she will then move to the National Competition in Washington D.C. She will be competing against the other 49 state winners in the same category.

New Wigs For Kids Board Member

Monique Smith, owner of Monique's Salon was recently appointed the newest Board Member for Wigs For Kids.

The first board meeting was held October 8th, 2008. Very prestigious professionals from all over the United States, gathered to discuss the future growth of Wigs for Kids.

During the meeting, it was discussed on local areas training cosmetology students how to properly cut hair for donations, how do we get and train current cosmetologist to cut a wig and hair unit properly, how to promote and get the word out on the necessity of donations, how and when wigs are made and how to create a smoother process to create wigs and hair units for children.

Families and children struggle everyday with hair loss. A lot of families allover the United States cannot afford wigs or hair units for their children. Wigs for Kids never turns down any child in need.

Candlelighters of the Inland Northwest

September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!

During the month, all of the staff at Monique's sold $81.00 worth of donation balloons. That is 2 ballons a day!

Good job to all of the Monique's Girls! Every little bit helps the Children and Their Families Fighting Cancer. All of the money that is raised by Candlelighters goes directly to our local children and their families.

Monique's Salon is proud to put a plan together to support Cancer Awareness.

Nearly everyone in our community has been touched in someway by this major health problem! All of us at Monique's believe in supporting our community and are excited about this opportunity to raise money for an organization that helps families suffering from this deadly disease.
